Eleanor Park

“Climate change seems like a huge beast to tackle, and it’s easy to get caught up in helplessness toward the issue. However, it’s important to recognize that differences are made one step at a time, and every individual’s actions can add up to a larger impact. With more people taking the initiative in climate action, we can create pressure on other people, businesses, and governments into taking responsibility for their carbon footprints and work towards a united, sustainable future..”

As a budding leader volunteering with the youth-led non-profit, Sustainability in Our Schools (SIOS), Eleanor has been a mentee working with Communitopia’s Youth Educator since February 2021. She shares, “I’ve received guidance in being a climate change leader to be able to spread important messages to others. I’ve also been connected to opportunities and resources to spread my initiatives as a part of Sustainability in our Schools (SIOS), which I’m really appreciative of.” Eleanor has improved her leadership skills in many ways, especially in event organization for future SIOS programming.

Eleanor presented at the Seeds of Change conference and in SIOS meetings, which has helped her refine her public speaking and presentation skills. Eleanor is very involved in sustainability work outside of Communitopia; she leads a chapter of the non-profit Global Minds at her school, emphasizing cultural education, social justice, and ESL support. She also founded The Diversity Story, an online multicultural magazine that publishes articles about different cultural experiences around the world.
