“I take action on climate change because I care about the human impact of climate change and how systemic injustices perpetuate food insecurity, housing insecurity, and access to healthcare, all of which are exacerbated by climate change.”

Founding Member: Pittsburgh Youth for Climate Action (PYCA)

Rebecca is a founding member of Pittsburgh Youth for Climate Action (PYCA) and has been consistently involved since then. Her participation in Communitopia programming has improved her public speaking skills and meeting planning and facilitation. Hse has facilitated her own workshops on climate change in her school as well. She also notes that Communitopia has helped her to meet other youth activists and provided many interesting speakers to engage with.

Her hope for the future is that the government can implement extensive policies surrounding the climate that accounts for all the aspects of life that climate change encompasses. In addition to her involvement with Communitopia, she is also an Alliance for Climate Education Youth Fellow and participates in the Fresh Air GASP program.
