“If we keep allowing the earth to suffer from the negative impacts of humans, there will be no earth left. Working with Communitopia has expanded my perspective about not only seeing climate injustice here in America but all over the world.”

Successfully Passed First School District Climate Change Resolution in Pennsylvania (Woodland Hills School District)
Founding Member: Woodland Hills Climate Action Team
Lead Planner: Woodland Hills Virtual Youth Climate Action Summit, October 2020

Tierra was one of the founders of the Woodland Hills Climate Action Team. In July of 2019, she and her peers made history when they successfully petitioned the Woodland Hills School Board to unanimously pass a Board Resolution calling for climate action, becoming the first school district in Pennsylvania to pass such a measure. The resolution called for the formation of a Climate Committee to champion multiple climate efforts and engage every part of the school community in the momentum!

In the summer and fall of 2020, Tierra served as a lead youth summiteer for the first-ever youth-led Woodland Hills Youth Virtual Climate Action Summit (WHYCAS). The first summit of its kind in the region, WHYCAS attracted nearly 200 attendees and raised over $1,500 for climate projects. Through participating in Communitopia’s programming, Tierra has increased her skills and confidence in public speaking, planning and facilitating meetings, and goal setting. Tierra is also interested in constantly growing her understanding of the interconnected ways that social injustice affects people around the world.
